Be the One
Or, Are you a one percenter?
Of every one hundred men in battle, ten should not even be there, eighty are nothing but targets, nine are the real fighters. We are lucky to have them since they make the battle, ah, but the one – one is the warrior – and he brings the others home – Heraclitus
The one is a realist with a firmly checked ego, skilled in communication. His or her abilities are honed to an edge. This can be through both practice and natural ability. Mastery of his skill is required. By not being the other 99 you become the one. You must work harder and rise above the fray.
This is not just true in ancient warfare. This principle caries forward into all endeavors. As a manager, both in construction and restaurants I have seen this over and over. Out of a crew of a hundred the ratios remain the same. Ten should never have been hired and you can’t wait for an excuse to fire them; Eighty muddle through; Nine have competence, but only one can lead.
